Its been good, Coco.

It's been good, Coco.

Today it’s official. The Red Sox traded centerfielder Coco Crisp. Rumore of a deal came up a year ago and the deal was all but inevitable given the emergence of Jacoby Ellsbury a year ago in the playoffs. Throughout his tenure with the Red Sox Coco played outstanding defense, often running down sure singles and turning them into outs. He was literally a human highlight real and a pitcher’s best friend. He leaves with a career .283 BA with a .751 OPS. Coupled with his excellent defense and you have an extremely valuable player.

And then there was this…

Pwnd.

Pwn'd.

In return, we get relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez who could certainly be useful. At the very least, he could be flipped to try to pick up another impact player. Happy trails, Coco.

Just one of many outstanding catches...

Tonight the Sox got knocked around in Citizen’s Bank Park. Wasn’t fun to watch baseball tonight. So, without further ado, here is some fun stuff I’ve gound lately.

I’m Voting Republican
At best, it’s hilarious. At worst, you’ll disrespect my (lack of) political opinion. Either way, there is some truth in it.

Mariner’s Foibles
A thoughtful and historical analysis as to why the MLB-worst Mariners, quite frankly, suck. Ironically enough, Bill Bavasi was just fired today.

Got a visit from someone special this weekend. Slept very little but had a lot of fun. In case you don’t know who she is, just check Facebook. Should be obvious. Wisdom I learned from this weekend to share with you mere mortals:

  1. Atonement is a terrible movie to watch at 3 am. It’s kinda ok any other time.
  2. Same with P.S. I Love You
  3. Playgrounds are way underrated
  4. Coastal Flats is a great place for dinner
  5. Girls are so good looking that it’s not even funny.

Seriously, girls, one of the best gifts you can give your guy is putting in the effort to look nice for him. Yes, yes, I know. Sometime you don’t feel like it… and that’s ok. All I’m saying is when it’s reasonable, go for it. We may not say it because we suck at that but it’s appreciated. That is all.

Also, watching Bartolo Colon swing a baseball bat tonight was the funniest thing I’ve seen in months.

Yesterday the offense was great. We linked up hits, got a few choice home runs, and generally flew around the base paths. The defense was terrific and Bartolo Colon is looking more and more like the best free agent move of the entire offseason. Today Wakefield (3-4, 4.70) goes up against Guthrie (2-6, 3.64) who, unfortunately, is clearly the Orioles best pitcher this year. But then again Wake has never looked better.

After that we play host to the first-place Rays for three games. Baseball Tonight just reported the matchups as follows:

  1. Masterson (1-0, 1.46) vs. Garza (4-1, 3.78)
  2. Beckett (5-4, 4.30) vs. E. Jackson (3-4, 3.70)
  3. Lester (3-3, 3.67) vs. Shields (4-3, 3.24)

This is gonna be a big, big series. Clearly they have the hot hands on the mound right now and they just don’t lost baseball games right now. But they’re too young to mean anything this season. Still, this is gonna be a scary team in two years. I’m just glad we get them at home right now.

A reported asked Manny what his next home run goal was…

501.

And he got it today. What a legend.
